Is Your Warehouse Compliant? 3 Simple Checks to Avoid Safety Fines

Preview

Failing a safety audit could cost your warehouse thousands. Here are 3 simple things to check — and fix — before it's too late.

WorkSafe inspections are becoming more common — and more costly when you’re caught out. Whether you’re managing a 3PL facility, distribution center, or manufacturing warehouse, safety compliance isn’t just about ticking boxes. It’s about protecting your people, your product, and your profit.

Here are three simple checks you can make this week to avoid safety breaches and future headaches.

✅ 1. Are Your Pallet Racks Protected from Falls?

Loose pallets, overhanging stock, and high-level inventory can easily shift or fall — especially with vibration, poor stacking, or forklift knock.

What to check:

  • Are there any areas with unsecured stock at height?

  • Do your racks back onto walkways or workstations?

  • Have there been any near misses or past incidents?

The fix:
Install rack netting to contain stock and meet fall protection standards. Zonex Safety netting installs fast and prevents product or pallet falls from becoming costly accidents.

✅ 2. Is Your Racking Structurally Sound?

Damaged racking is one of the most common compliance failures. Look for:

  • Bent uprights

  • Loose or missing bolts

  • Signs of impact damage

The fix:
Get a racking inspection done regularly. Replace damaged components immediately and consider adding end-of-aisle protectors or bollards to reduce future impacts.

✅ 3. Are Pedestrian Pathways Clearly Defined?

Pedestrian and forklift interactions are a leading cause of injury in warehouses. It’s your responsibility to keep foot traffic safely separated from machinery.

What to check:

  • Are pedestrian walkways clearly marked?

  • Do you have visual barriers and signage in place?

  • Are crossings at blind corners protected?

The fix:
Use pedestrian barriers, bollards, and painted line markings to separate zones. At busy intersections, install safety mirrors to improve visibility.
